Andritz AG renewed the two pump turbines in the Malta upper level storage power plant (Carinthia, Austria) in 2020 and 2021. In the course of this conversion work, one of the tasks was to insert a new support vane ring into the existing volute. Due to the increased stresses that occurred in the transition areas of the support blades, a prompt solution had to be found.

A good solution was found in several consultations between Andritz AG and HiFIT Vertriebs GmbH.

Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic regulations, HiFIT Vertriebs GmbH sent two employees to the construction site in the Maltatal at short notice. When performing the HiFIT treatment, it was very beneficial that the HiFIT devices are very small and compact, so that the areas were easily accessible with the devices. The high impact frequency of approx. 300Hz shortened the assumed working time, so that all possible transitions could be processed with the HiFIT process to the complete satisfaction of the customer.

Finally, extensive documentation was developed that documented the measure in detail.
